Plough Share Orchid
The explanation of the name of this orchid "plow-share" Serapias makes more sense to me. As I found at Wikipedia also a interesting information about this orchid.
Serapias vomeracea is an entomophilous plant, but cannot offer floral rewards to pollinators, as it does not produce nectar. Therefore, this orchid has a deceptive strategy, as pollinators are just attracted by the shape of the flower, forming a small tube used by insects to rest by night or as a refuge against the rain. In this process the pollen stuck to the pollinators bodies. Once they leave their shelter, they will deposit the pollen on other flowers and will fertilize them.
Wheat
Along this road are also fields with wheat and among of course other flowers, wild gladiolas.
More Orchids
There are not only "Naked Man" orchids in abundance right on the road but also these nice yellow ones.

We were introduced to the Crystal Hills a few years back. It was the first time we visited Polemi and we were on the hunt for geocaches. This particularly one was a near perfect example of what makes a good cache: an interesting location that we would have been unlikely to find had there not been a cache there. The only thing that let the cache down was it's size, but we won't go into that here. Instead we shall have a look at the terrain, and see why the cache was called "The Crystal Hill".A Crystal Road Trip
