Exceptional crystals from Konia area (Paphos)
Today we have a special treat. One of our forum regulars is a bit of an expert on the local crystals you can find in the hills around Paphos. He has kindly agreed to share some of his photos. Over to you Max...
After my last post and photos from my crystal collection I got a very good respond and members asked me to show more pictures. As Dominic invited me to do a guest blog article about Cyprus crystals here we are. I did a little ride today to show the location were I found these delicate crystals which are from the Gypsum family, Quartz and Rocky salt crystals.
A Volcanic Pipe
On the first image one can see the area with a small river valley leading down towards Yeroskipou and the old Paphos rubbish dump. The river comes from Tsada Minthis Hills Golf Resort.
What you can also see on this photo is a rocky formation in the center which is a volcanic pipe millions of years old. This will be the subject of my next blog about Amethyst crystals.
Crystal Cliff
Here you can see a hill site where you can find crystals if you are dedicated enough. Your eyes have to get used first, to subjects looking different than the rest of the place. It is very steep here and difficult to find hold to work.
Looking closer...
The crystals are not just laying around but you have to cut them out with small hammer and chisel if you understand the formation.
And closer...
Here one can clearly recognize the interveined rocks.
