I know Polemi has had snow many times before, but this is the first time we've had proper snow since we moved here in June. So naturally I had to take some pictures...
Old Paphos is undergoing a transformation. Not only that, but in a few days time, Paphos 2017 will officially get underway. So we thought we would take a last stroll and a few snaps of the area before the transformation is complete.
New art installations are being erected at the ten entrances to Paphos Town. The monuments have been designed by a group of Paphos architects and are made of concrete and corten weathering steel. They depict the letter 'P' (π) in Greek, the first letter of Paphos, and so have been crafted in this shape.
If you drive to the Akamas along the coastal road, you will eventually come off the main road and onto a side road leading to the Akamas proper. Before you go past the Searays cafe bar, you will see a nondescript sign on your right, next to a layby.
One thing Cyprus is very good for is geocaches. There are a a variety of caches out there to suit all abilities, and some of them can take you to places and things you would never ordinarily discover.
As 2016 draws to a close we decided to take a final trip to the Akamas. We have been trying to locate some interesting fossils we saw a few years ago, and the last couple of times we had tried we had ended up somewhere else. We found the right route this time though.
In a recent blog we showed you the sugar factory at Kouklia. We mentioned at the time that we would do another blog showing where the mills might have originated from. I would imagine that the millstone in this blog was probably destined for somewhere nearer than Kouklia, as it would be a fair haul from Episkopi. However, you can at least see how the millstones were made.
If it seems like it will never stop raining, take heart and consider what it was like in 2015. We took these when we were caught in a cloudburst while waiting for a kebab.
Thanks to the Troodos Webcam we were able to see that it had been snowing in the hills, so we packed our jumpers and headed off for some winter fun.
I noticed this tree when I was out logging shops for the Paphos Life Directory. I was intrigued by it so thought I would take a closer look.
As you drive along the A6 from Paphos to Limassol, you will pass the Asprokemmos Dam on your left. Just after that you will see some old ruins. This is the site of an ancient sugar factory.
If you have ever driven to the Blue Lagoon via the coastal road, you can be forgiven for not spotting this delightful little church en route.
