Nice Tarmac!

As we travel through the village, I want to highlight something. Now, admitedly, this road has recently been resurfaced, but it is a great example of how good the road network is in Cyprus. In the UK, one of the main things I remember is the sheer number of potholes that were just about everywhere. The roads here are much better. Oh sure, some are terrible, but overall, they put UK roads to shame.

Kokkinos Tavern

We've now come to the first of Polemi's taverns. This is Kokkinos.

Corner Cafe And Bar

New Kind on the Block is the Corner Cafe and Bar. I recently went here when I was reporting on the new Tulip Garden which is next to it. I was amazed at how nice it was inside. Well worth a visit. As well as coffee, there is a bar here and food is also served.

Polemi Schools

A lot of the villages in Cyprus are declining, because the younger generation move to the cities in search of a more modern standard of living. Polemi is an exception. Part of its appeal are the two schools, which cater for the surrounding villages too. The new motorway will also make Polemi a more popular location for young Cypriot families, as they will be able to enjoy the perks of village life yet be able to commute easily to Paphos or Limassol even, for their job.

Don't be alarmed when I say motorway though. Initially it is only planned to be a single lane one, though later it will be a dual carriageway. It won't be anything like the M3!

Another Monument

If you drive down the road here on the right, you will eventually come to an interesting area where the floor is covered in gypsum. Read about The Crystal Hills of Polemi here. Hard to believe I wrote that article six years ago!

The Twelve Churches of Polemi

A while ago we reviewed a new map book on Cyprus. We noted that it showed a lot of churches in Polemi that we were unaware. Many of them were in ruins now, but we thought they deserved to be seen. So join us as we visit them all, or at least, what's left of them.

The Polemi Community Project

The Community Spirit is alive and well in at least one corner of Paphos! In Polemi, a group of volunteers, with the help of the local Mukhtar, are converting an area of wasteland into a Community Garden for the whole of Polemi to enjoy. A few days ago we paid them a visit to see how things were progressing.

Polemi Concentration Camp

As you approach Polemi from the B7, you pass the Kamanterena Winery on your right. Just beyond that, if you are paying attention, you will see a lookout tower that wouldn't look out of place on a WW2 movie. A couple of ancient armoured vehicles might also perk your interest, so pull over, and take a look at Polemi Concentration Camp.

The Polemi Countryside

The last couple of blogs have been a bit intense, so we thought we would chill out and go for a stroll through the Polemi Countryside, and take a look at the flora, fauna, and interesting gypsum formations that can be found in our beautiful Cyprus scenery...

Polemi in 500 Metres

I went for a stroll around Polemi this morning. I didn't use the SMS service, so had to stay within 500 metres of our house. Turns out the light was fantastic and I was able to take some nice pictures, assisted in part, by one of our cats who decided to follow me on my travels...

Polemi Sunrise

A couple of days ago I was up bright and early running some errands, and I couldn't help but notice the beautiful sunrise. Naturally enough, I took some pictures, and this put me in the mood to take some more snaps as I carried out my chores...
