Cyprus Orchids
Himantoglossum robertianum - Giant Orchid

This species of orchid is the most common we have seen.

Anyway, inspired by Max's pictures, we set off on our own adventure. Unfortunately, it was very cloudy, but as we were going to be looking a flowers rather than views, we weren't too perturbed.
On our Way

We decided to explore the land between Koili and Stroumpi. A lot of it is well maintained vineyards, as you can see.
Distant Koili

One thing to bear in mind when exploring, is that the farm tracks often cross one farmer's land only. Each farmer has their own tracks. You cannot set off with the assumption you will definitely be able to traverse the entire landscape. We ended up on a plateau, at a dead end. So before you set off on a dodgy looking route, make sure you will be able to come back the same way if needed.
Distant Seas

In the distance you can see the sea, and the Mavrokolympos Reservoir. Before that, closer to the foreground, you can just make out the amphitheatre at Adonis Baths

Polemi Tulip Festival 2018
This morning, Polemi was bathed in Spring sunshine, as it invited people to come and see the tulips that flourish there every year. It is an annual event, which gives a true taste of traditional Cypriot life. And as we live in Polemi ourselves, it would be rude not to cover it, wouldn't it?
Happy Mothers Day!
In the UK it is Mothers Day today. Cyprus celebrates this wonderful day along with much of the world on May 12th, but as we hail from England, we thought it appropriate to salute mothers today.

eBookCyprus Road Trip 01: the Kathikas - Panagia Loop
Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
