Spring is in The Air!
Yesterday we took a walk out across the Akamas, above Avakas Gorge (which deserves a blog article of its own). Spring was definitely in the air, and the flowers were blooming. We took a few shots to share.
The Top of the Gorge

If you've visited Avakas Gorge, you may not have walked it's full length. As you ascend the rocks can get very slippery and it is definitely not something to be attempted after a rain shower. However, if you don't make it to the end you will miss some lovely scenery.
In The Stream

After the imposing walls of the gorge, the stream ascends into green fields populated by inquisitive goats.
Towards The Main Road

It is possible to drive near to here in a regular Saloon car, provided you approach from the main, Pegia - Polis road, past Kathikas.
Idyllic Scenery

Do not attempt to drive here from the Akamas though, unless you are in a 4x4.
Now, what you can't see from these photos, is how many flowers are also blossoming. I am no botanist, so I will rely on readers to enlighten me as to what I have photographed...
White Anemone

According to my wife, this is a White Anemone.

Cyprus Orchids

During Spring, most of Cyprus is green, as recent blogs will have shown. Not only that, but spring flowers come out to bloom, painting the hills and valleys with a sea of colour. If you are lucky, or you know where to look, you will also come across fields of orchids...
Kato Paphos In Springtime.

In the UK it is Mothers Day today. Cyprus celebrates this wonderful day along with much of the world on May 12th, but as we hail from England, we thought it appropriate to salute mothers today.

Polis Beach took a bit of a battering over the winter months. An unexpected river came for a visit, and left it in a bit of a state. We were curious to see if it was once again beach fit...Good Pages To Visit

eBookCyprus Road Trip 01: the Kathikas - Panagia Loop
Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
