Foinikas Views
We just can't keep away from Foinikas. Somebody posted some pics of the abandoned village on our Paphos Chat facebook group, and people were asking how to get there. We bumped an old blog showing the route, but decided that a film was also needed. While we were out filming it, we decided to take some more shots, but this time we went for some outstanding views...
Foinikas is an abandoned village on the banks of the Asprokremmos Reservoir, near Paphos. We have covered its history in previous blogs (see links at foot of page, also see link at foot of page for a map showing you where it is).
Last summer, Foinikas was very dry, as this picture shows. Note the pylon in the top left of the picture though.
We shall start our blog from up there. Don't worry. I didn't climb up. That would be a bit iffy. Instead we drove up via some farm tracks accessible from the Nata direction. Don't attempt the route unless you are in a decent 4x4 though.
Power Lines
Imagine if that was a zip line, and not a power line. Would you take the trip?
Best Foinikas View Ever
We had a reason to visit Foinikas aside from making a film. We have a couple of geocaches here and one of them required maintenance. I was also taking the opportunity to hide two more, which should hopefully be published soon. Actually, I hid one of the caches last year, and never got around to publishing it. I was trying to locate that when we came upon the pylon. This is not where I placed the cache last year, but the view of Foinikas from the pylon is probably the best you will find.
Close Up
So naturally we hid a cache near the pylon too...
I think I shall call it Foinikas View. If you like geocaching it is well worth tracking down, for the view, if not the contents.
