Several areas of Paphos were left without water from the early hours of Sunday due to serious damage to the main water supply pipeline of Paphos and suburban areas of the district, which is located at a point north of Yeroskipou.
The unusually high water consumption observed around 6am saw a crew of the Water Development Department mobilised.
District Engineer of the Paphos Water Development Department Harris Kasioulis told the Cyprus News Agency that the municipalities of Paphos and Akamas as well as the communities of Chlorakas and Lemba were affected by the damage to the pipeline.
He added that the damage is at great depth, “which complicates the restoration works by the crew, which has been on site from the very beginning”.
Kasioulis said water supply will gradually be restored, while the full restoration of the water supply is expected to take place by Monday morning at the latest.
