Happy Easter!
We were out doing our Annual Easter Egg Hunt this morning. It took us down through the Esouza Valley, and finally to the sea. I won't be doing a blog article on the final part of this journey, as it isn't in the same league as the two sections I have previously blogged about. However, we did stumble across this shrine. At first glance, I took it as a typical shrine you see fairly frequently in Cyprus. However, a second glance revealed it to be rather unusual.
Beachside Shrine
I think the Angry Birds originally caught my eye. That and the bears, as bears feature heavily in our family Easter Egg Hunts.
Pooh, Eeyore and Tigger Too
There appears to be the remains of an earlier shrine behind it. So you have to wonder how long the shrine has been located here.
Lots of Toys
Most of the toys were bleached white through age.
Alvin?
That little chipmunk looks a fairly recent addition though, as does the Barbie Doll at the front of the shrine.
New Flowers
My best guess is that this shrine was originally placed in memory of an infant, and over time other mourners have added to it. I hope that they found some solace as they laid their memorials here.
Hopefully, over Easter, the strong faith that Cypriots seem to possess in abundance, will make their losses more bearable. Here's hoping they have a Happy Easter, and a Happy Easter to you too.
