Polemi Sunrise

Stroumpi

Now, I think it is time we went to the top of the mountain, as there is something I need to mention. Oh, and before I forget, there is a sign up here describing the place. I won't include a photo of it, because, let's be honest, the landscapes a lot prettier than a photo of a sign. But this is what the sign said:

MOUNTAIN PEAK OF AGIA MARINA

The view from the top of the Agia Marina Mound, which is deemed to be the highest point in the area (545m) is panoramic. Despite modernisation, the agricultural landscape of the village, which one can view from this height, still maintains it's magic and beauty. The landscape is still dotted with terebinths, almond trees that blossom in spring, oaks and a multitude of Mediterranean shrubs.

New Motorway

You may or may not have heard about the planned new motorway that is going to link Polis with the rest of the motorway network of Cyprus. Well, I found a route map, which was pretty low quality, so superimposed it on top of a Google map of the area. I only traced the route as far as Stroumpi, if you are wondering why it stops there. I have also marked in three locations. These are the rough places I stopped to take pictures. The third location being this mountain, and the second being the main Polemi water tower.

Tunnel Hill?

The reports I read spoke of two tunnels for the motorway. Presumably, one of them will run below Stroumpi. However, given that an exit is shown on the map, near the petrol station and DIY shop in the bottom right of the photo, I can only assume that the entrance to the tunnel must be behind them, and a bit further up.

Towards Akoursos

This would mean that in this area, the motorway will be above ground.

DIstant Koili

The motorway will run from left to right here, from what I can work out.

Polemi Tulip Festival 2018

This morning, Polemi was bathed in Spring sunshine, as it invited people to come and see the tulips that flourish there every year. It is an annual event, which gives a true taste of traditional Cypriot life. And as we live in Polemi ourselves, it would be rude not to cover it, wouldn't it?

Polemi Sunset

Polemi isn't known for it's sunsets, well, to us at least. They are normally the domain of the coastal areas of Paphos, and Max's house. However, this evening, the Gods smiled on us, and granted us a lovely sunset. The photos can provide a brief, fitting epilogue to our last blog, Polemi Sunrise.

Polemi Snow!

I know Polemi has had snow many times before, but this is the first time we've had proper snow since we moved here in June. So naturally I had to take some pictures...

Come To Polemi Tulip Festival!

The Polemi Tulip Festival is this weekend, 1st April at 11:30AM. Numerous people have been asking for more information about the event, so we have produced this little guide, showing you where it is, and where you should park etc.

Paphos Sunsets

The Paphos regional board of tourism along with other stakeholders are undertaking a programme to promote sunsets in the region as the ‘most majestic’ in Cyprus, to both locals and visitors. So I thought I would dig through my old holiday snaps of the Island, and give them a hand...

Polemi Rain

The winter storms are back with a vengeance. Polemi had 46mm of rain overnight, and it showed this morning. Our webcam presented a sorry picture, but I was curious to see what was happening in other parts of the village...

Polemi Concentration Camp

As you approach Polemi from the B7, you pass the Kamanterena Winery on your right. Just beyond that, if you are paying attention, you will see a lookout tower that wouldn't look out of place on a WW2 movie. A couple of ancient armoured vehicles might also perk your interest, so pull over, and take a look at Polemi Concentration Camp.

From Pentalia to Polemi

A few weeks ago we produced a rather long film, showing a drive from Pentalia to Polemi. I was going to do a sped-up version, but I found the full version quite relaxing, especially with the soothing soundtrack, so I have left it alone. People were curious as to the route we took, so I retraced our steps, and stopped to take some photographs along the way...
