Polemi Lockdown

Published 28th of March, 2020

Cyprus is in lockdown, for its own good. We are allowed to leave the house for exercise, so a brisk walk around the block was in order. And fortunately, we have a very scenic block...

Half Way Through Week #1

This view is similar to what you will see on the Polemi webcam picture. It shows the vineyard in the field opposite our villa. Beyond that you can make out the distant hills of Paphos Forest. Before we left, of course, we made sure we were carrying our passports and the citizens forms.

Turn Left

Turning left we have more vineyards. I love the patterns they make. You can't see it here, but the area to the left of the shot is still a bit flooded. It is much better than it has been in recent years though, because they installed new drainage pipes in the area, so most of the water gets carried off to the lowlands.

Interesting Treehouse

Our daughter spotted this. She assumed that some kids had erected a tree house. I am not so sure though. Perhaps some hunters fancied getting a bit of a height advantage. If it was kids, fair play and good effort. The camp has survived the recent storms.

Tiptoe Through The Tulips

They say every cloud has a silver lining. The lockdown meant that the tulip festival - due to happen tomorrow - had to be cancelled. The silver lining is that as of yesterday, they haven't yet come into flower as much as they will eventually do.

I think in another week or so, they will be at their best. Do not see that as an excuse to come and see them though, unless you live in close proximity. I imagine the police will take a very dim view of people congregating here. We just happen to live within a stone's throw of the field.

Polemi Tulip Festival 2018

This morning, Polemi was bathed in Spring sunshine, as it invited people to come and see the tulips that flourish there every year. It is an annual event, which gives a true taste of traditional Cypriot life. And as we live in Polemi ourselves, it would be rude not to cover it, wouldn't it?

Polemi Rain

The winter storms are back with a vengeance. Polemi had 46mm of rain overnight, and it showed this morning. Our webcam presented a sorry picture, but I was curious to see what was happening in other parts of the village...

Polemi Sunrise

A couple of days ago I was up bright and early running some errands, and I couldn't help but notice the beautiful sunrise. Naturally enough, I took some pictures, and this put me in the mood to take some more snaps as I carried out my chores...

Polemi Sunset

Polemi isn't known for it's sunsets, well, to us at least. They are normally the domain of the coastal areas of Paphos, and Max's house. However, this evening, the Gods smiled on us, and granted us a lovely sunset. The photos can provide a brief, fitting epilogue to our last blog, Polemi Sunrise.

Polemi Snow!

I know Polemi has had snow many times before, but this is the first time we've had proper snow since we moved here in June. So naturally I had to take some pictures...
