For some reason these particular artifacts had extra protection from the elements.

To The Museum

There were a lot of signs out here, detailing the history of the Cult of Aphrodite, among other things. I hadn't heard of this before I moved to Cyprus. I had heard of Aphrodite, but was unaware of how big she was historically. Known for love and romance, legend also credits her for creating the first prostitutes. She was the Patron Goddess of Prostitution. Did you also know that St Nicholas (A.K.A Father ruddy Christmas) is, amongst the many strings to his bow, the Patron Saint of Prostitution? I have yet to find any stories linking the two together though, other than idle gossip.

Incidentally, I got most of the above from googling "Cult of Aphrodite". That is as far as my expertise goes I'm afraid.

Interesting Mural

There is an interesting mural on the wall above the museum entrance. I wonder if the whole wall was once covered like this?

I was impressed with the ceiling as we entered the courtyard.

We are now in the main courtyard. I was surprised at how big it was with respect to the rest of the building. The museum is in the building ahead of us, in the top floor. The arch you can see in the centre leads to the basement, which was empty.
