Palaipafos Archaeological Park
Old Statue

Before we entered the museum, we took a look around the courtyard. There are a number of discoveries here.

Another Arch

There are an assortment of pieces here. It is like a huge 3D jigsaw puzzle waiting to be reassembled.
To The Museum

Let's go and have a look at the museum.
Vintage Tub

There was a fair amount to see in the museum, far to much for me to show here. I will pick out a couple of exhibits though.
Clay Bathtub
The bathtub was found buried in the floor of the colonnaded hall of the ancient sanctuary and dates between the 14th and 12th c. B.C. The shape of the bathtub is similar to those used in the Minoan-Mycenaean world and seems to be associated with the Greek Achaean presence in Cyprus.
Sacred stone (Baetyl)

This stone (black-green volcanic stone) is thought to be the cult symbol of Aphrodite in the Sanctuary of Palaipafos. A similar conical object appears on the known depictions of the Hellenistic and Roman sanctuary. Ancient writers describe it and testify for the aniconic (without figural represntation) cult of the deity at Pafos. It is probably a remnant of ancient practices in the Orient, where the worship of sacred stones, believed to embody the deity, is known.
