Old Town Street Party
The Christmas Festivities continue until the Holy Feast of Epiphany, on January 6th, which is another Bank Holiday. Last night in the Old Town they held a Street Party, so we went down to investigate.
Covered Market
The adverts appeared for the Street Party a couple of days before the event. It was to be situated in the Sqaure between the Covered Market and Ibrahim's Khan. Whenever events like this occur there is always some confusion among the non Greek speakers as roads mentioned are in Greek, naturally. This is understandable, but getting that information into Google Maps can be a bit confusing. Fortunately we are getting better so knew where to head to. We parked in the Car Park by the mosque and headed to the centre. This is the covered market on the right. The lovely art shop called The Place is just up on the left.
The Square
And this is the Street Party. I was umming and ahhing about whether to film it, but the music was so loud I didn't bother. They were belting out a selection of hits from all pop eras. While I was there I could hear Eurthymic's Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) and I was rather pleased to see a young child singing along. Good taste lives on!
Crowds
There was a mostly youngish crowd in attendance at around 7PM. The event went on to 11PM though, so I don't know what it was like later.
The DJ
This was the source of the sounds.
Light Show
they had dry ice and spotlights to add to the scene too.
