Meet Bean

That's right. I mentioned our rabbit who died of old age while I was making this article. Well, forgive me but I am including a page of pictures showing her enjoying life, as she was an important part of our family. We got her five years ago, and she's been part of our family ever since.

When the cats came along, two years later, she was like a big sister to them. I remember that they used to be able to fit through the bars in her run cage. Eventually only Minx was small enough to do this trick, and the two girls developed a special bond. Minx would come in to snuggle up to her when her brothers got a bit too boisterous.

Peepers And Bean

And this year, when a chicken joined our household, Bean showed her the best places to find seeds and ants.

In terms of accomodation, she had a nice big hutch, and a run which you see here, in the garden. We would often let her out to run around, and hide under various shrubs until she got tired. Collecting her at bedtime would occasionally be fun, as she had her own opinion on when she should get some shut-eye. Later in her life she was better behaved though, and would even make it back to her hutch on her own steam, which was quite sweet.

Important Lessons

Now Peepers wanders around the garden on her own, looking for her friend...

Having It Large

She was a well-travelled Bunny too! Every year we spend a week in Ayia Napa and Protaras. Bean always came with us, with a travelling cage. We also had a cut-down run which went in the villa garden. We had to watch her indoors though, as she had a taste for phone cables. I've lost several internet connections as a result of her nibblings.

Farewell, Old Friend

So sleep well, you beautiful Bunny. We will all miss you, and especially our daughter, who is herself embarking on a new adventure when she travels back to England to study at University. Perhaps it was for the best that you went now, so that she could mourn you properly and not from 1000s of miles away?

If you fancy a rabbit as a pet, and live in Cyprus, please do make sure they have plenty of space. Don't keep them couped up in a tiny cage the whole time. They also need an annual jab, as there is a rabbit-killing bug in Cyprus which can be lethal to them. But they make great pets, and will become an important part of your family life, if treated properly.

Bean will be greatly missed.

The Twelve Churches of Polemi

A while ago we reviewed a new map book on Cyprus. We noted that it showed a lot of churches in Polemi that we were unaware. Many of them were in ruins now, but we thought they deserved to be seen. So join us as we visit them all, or at least, what's left of them.

The Polemi Community Project

The Community Spirit is alive and well in at least one corner of Paphos! In Polemi, a group of volunteers, with the help of the local Mukhtar, are converting an area of wasteland into a Community Garden for the whole of Polemi to enjoy. A few days ago we paid them a visit to see how things were progressing.

Polemi Concentration Camp

As you approach Polemi from the B7, you pass the Kamanterena Winery on your right. Just beyond that, if you are paying attention, you will see a lookout tower that wouldn't look out of place on a WW2 movie. A couple of ancient armoured vehicles might also perk your interest, so pull over, and take a look at Polemi Concentration Camp.

The Polemi Countryside

The last couple of blogs have been a bit intense, so we thought we would chill out and go for a stroll through the Polemi Countryside, and take a look at the flora, fauna, and interesting gypsum formations that can be found in our beautiful Cyprus scenery...

Polemi in 500 Metres

I went for a stroll around Polemi this morning. I didn't use the SMS service, so had to stay within 500 metres of our house. Turns out the light was fantastic and I was able to take some nice pictures, assisted in part, by one of our cats who decided to follow me on my travels...

Polemi Sunrise

A couple of days ago I was up bright and early running some errands, and I couldn't help but notice the beautiful sunrise. Naturally enough, I took some pictures, and this put me in the mood to take some more snaps as I carried out my chores...
