The Abandoned Rancho Appaloosa
Utility Room
There were also a fair few shower rooms, and quite a few bedrooms. I have refrained from posting a picture of every room though, because after a while it gets a bit dull.
An Old Map
This fragment of an old map first told us the name of the place. It was from this clue that I found the website. The map itself seems to resemble an old tube map.
Outdoor Kitchen
This would have been a lovely spot for some summertime cooking.
Tricks of the Trade?
Didn't they used to use pepper to make horses run faster?
Old Photos of the Chalets, and a Map!
The map is especially useful, as we now can see what the various buildings were.
Anyway, that is enough time in the chalets. If we return to the junction, I mentioned previously that there were two routes down. Ignore the obvious route for now, and take the harder to reach road to the right. This leads to the dog pound.

The Abandoned Hospital at Amiantos Mines
The Cyprus Asbestos Mine is situated right in the heart of Troodos forest. Following a continuous operation of 84 years, the mine came to a sudden closure in 1988, leaving behind large volumes of waste tips, a badly designed mine pit and an unacceptable environmental scar to an otherwise heavily forested natural beauty area. It also left behind a hospital, which now stands abandoned on the other side of the valley. While environmental steps have been taken to turn the area near the mines into a nature park, the hospital has been let to nature.Return to The Abandoned Ranch
The other day we saw an article about a mysterious church that had appeared in the Kouris Reservoir because of the low water level. When we got there it turned out to be a case of bad journalism. However, as we were in the area, we decided to revisit the abandoned Rancho Appaloosa, to see how much it had changed since we first found the place, in 2016.Kouris Reservoir
We've neglected the dams for a while. They've overflowed, and now the waters are subsiding, ever so slightly. But what of the reservoirs further afield? Kouris has a church which is nearly submerged when it is full. So we thought we better photographed this semi-submerged church while it is still semi-submerged.Good Pages To Visit
