Hundreds turned out for Akamas demo

Around 500 people took part in a demonstration to save the nature of the Akamas peninsula from being destroyed in Nicosia on Sunday afternoon.

People gathered at the House of Europe at 2.30pm and started marching to the municipality via Makarios avenue at 3pm, shouting slogans such as “no more development” and “save the seals” and carrying banners.

The March ended at the old town hall square where a concert took place with local bands Monsieur Doumani, JUΛIO, Averta Liberta and Windcraft Band.

Paphos-Polis highway to be completed by 2021

The highway that will connect Paphos with Polis is in the works, Phileleftheros reported on Monday. The two-lane highway will start from the existing Limassol-Paphos (A6) highway in Agia Marinouda and will pass through the villages of Marathounta, Armou, Tsada, Kallepia, Koili and Stroumpi.

 

Update: Police release pictures of Paphos jewellery shop theft suspects

Paphos police are looking for a man and a woman suspected of stealing 50 rings worth €20,000 from a jewellery shop while pretending to be prospective buyers.

The couple, both non-Cypriot, went into the shop as the shopkeeper was preparing to close for lunch and asked to look at various items.

Rain, possible hail expected

Tuesday will start off partly cloudy with possible scattered showers and or thunderstorms, mainly in the mountains and in the north.

By the afternoon it is expected to become mainly cloudy with local rain and isolated storms in many parts of the island.

Thunderstorms may be accompanied by hail.

Latchi wellness resort closes over licence wrangle

The owner of a well-known holiday village in Latchi has hit back over claims and action taken by the present tenant which resulted in the closure of the venue in September due to a wrangle over licences.

Zening Wellness Resort – previously Elia Holiday Village – was taken over by Garmonis Hotels in 2012 on a ten-year contract.
