Paphos Old Town has been transformed over the past couple of years, in a good way, I feel. A walk through its streets will reveal a multitude of delights from beautifully decorated traditional coffee shops to quirky fashion boutiques. You will also find trendy eateries and theatres, not to mention an abundance of art and craft shop offering hand-crafted creations. Today we will be looking at one of these; a very special place, slightly off the beaten track, but well worth taking a diversion too...
From The Outside
Pumpkin House is close to Kennedy Square, but you may not have seen it. If you remember our last Old Town blog, a few months ago, we passed the shop and I commented on how nice it looked. I am currently working on a rather large project, which involves taking lots of 360 pictures with my swanky panoramic camera. This brought me, once again, to Pumpkin House, and this time, I decided to venture inside...
From The Outside Looking In
Looking through the front door, you can already see that there is a lot going on inside. But believe me, this is just the tip of the iceberg.
You Can Keep Your Shoes On
This shoe rack, is right by the front door, but don't worry, you don't have to take your shoes off to enter. We will return to these shoes on the next page. I want to show you a bit more of the shop first, to whet your appetite.
Welcome!
Evi Kokkinou is the artist behind all these creations. This is one of a pair of papier-mache dolls designed to welcome you to the shop. She tells me she prefers wood as her medium though, as well as the humble pumpkin.
The Essential Map
I wanted to get a map of this place on the first page of the blog. I am aware that subsequent pages will get less views, as people get distracted, internet signals break up, or your bus arrives. So I am showing you this map now. Pumpkin House is above Kennedy Square, towards the Markideio Theatre. If you are driving, the carpark behind the theatre is the best place to park; it is large, with plenty of available space, but seems to be less well-used than the constantly full carpark next to it, on the other side of the E706.
If coming by foot, from Kennedy Square you head down past Aphrodite Jewelery (see middle of map) then veer right. You will go past a number of lovely murals on your way too. From Kennedy Square you are only looking at a five minute walk, if you don't get distracted along the way.
Finding your way through Old Town can seem a bit daunting at first, it is like a rabbit warren in places. But that is a big part of its charm. All you need to remember is that it is near Markideio Theatre and the Bank of Cyprus on the B7. If you get lost, just ask directions to either of them. You won't be very far away.

eBookCyprus Road Trip 01: the Kathikas - Panagia Loop
Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
