Getting Dark
The light was beginning to fade, but I wanted to at least get close to the bottom.
Stairway To Heaven
After the shelter the track begins to descend more steeply. There are even some stairs, though they have seen better days.
Old Steps
See what I mean? These definitely need a bit of TLC.
Enough
I had confirmed that I was on the same nature trail as before, and that it did indeed head down to the bottom of the gorge. But the light was getting low now, so I decided to return to the car.
Wear Long Trousers!
As you can see, if you don't come prepared you will pay a painful price.

This year I've spend a fair bit of time exploring the countryside around Akourdaleia. It fascinates me, partly because of its staggering beauty, and partly because it is unknown to most people. A huge gorge runs between it and Kritou Tera, yet it is invisible from any of the main roads. While investigating this gorge, I came across a Nature Trail I hadn't heard of before. So come with me as I explore it.

eBookCyprus Road Trip 01: the Kathikas - Panagia Loop
Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
