Akamas Summer Drive
Last year there were a number of fires on the Akamas. We thought we would take a ride along the top and see how nature was recovering. So we started at Ineia and took the track towards Smigies Picnic Area. Join us for some amazing views...
Gateway to Pittokopos
We being our journey on the outskirts of Ineia. You can see Chrysochou Bay in the distance, home to Polis, Pomos and an array of lovely villages in between. Today though, we are staying inland.
Turn Left Here
There is a picnic bench here. In high summer, if you are lucky, there may even be an Ice Cream Van. Not today though.
This is one of the main entrances into the Akamas. You can access Lara Bay from here, but in this journey we are going to drive along the main ridge that runs from north to south.
Follow That Road
Now, depending on the last time the route was repaired, you will either have a pleasant country ride or it will be very bumpy. At the moment, it is tending towards bumpy. Indeed, I was making a 360 film here a couple of months ago, and it was so bumpy that the camera fell off the roof. By blind luck, I held my hand out of the window, and caught it on the way down. It was interesting footage!
Alex Says Hello
I wasn't alone on this drive. Alex was with me, eager to photograph bees and butterflies, and anything else interesting that attracted the attention of her zoom lens.
There are a number of decent rock climbing locations on top of the Akamas. There are similar rocks down near Droushia too.
