Goat Tracks

You can see from the multiple tracks here that the area is popular with goats.

Old Ruins

Once I had crossed the valley I reached another plateau. You can see quite a few ruined farm buildings up here. There is also a number of goat shacks.

Towards The Gorge

Soon I was standing on the Peyia side of White River Gorge. In the previous blog, I had stood at the top of the hill you can see on the left, looking in this direction. If you followed the gorge up here (if it were possible) you would end up in Kathikas.

Closer Look

I followed the lip of the gorge upstream for a short while, to get a closer look. There weren't any obvious tracks leading down though, other than the occasional goat path. I would have explored a bit more but unfortunately I was only wearing trainers. To explore this sort of terrain you really need a decent pair of hiking boots. If nothing else, they will offer some protection against snakes.

Road To Nowhere

I could have followed this track upstream to see where it would have led, but I wanted to head downhill. I checked on the map later, and it soon fizzles out, so I was wise not to.

The Far Side of the Akamas

Last October when I had the weekend to myself, I resolved to do a geocache that had eluded me up until now, due to it's remoteness. Given that people were interested in the Akamas Church blog I posted a while back, I thought I would turn the photos I took into another blog...

Liesegang Rings in the Akamas

As 2016 draws to a close we decided to take a final trip to the Akamas. We have been trying to locate some interesting fossils we saw a few years ago, and the last couple of times we had tried we had ended up somewhere else. We found the right route this time though.

The Akamas By Car

Nothing beats exploring the Akamas by car. A decent 4x4 can take you to places you would never normally find on foot, and the aircon can be a real life-saver. Some routes into the Akamas are bumpier than others. In this blog take a relatively bump free route which would suite the more cautious amongst you.
