Next on our tour we have Toumpallos. As well as the ruins you see here, there are two main features waiting to be explored. We shall get to them by walking to the right of the foundations you can see, and past the ditch.

Ancient Military Camp

First, there is the military garrison camp, cut into the walls. This dates back to the 4th Century B.C.

And Theres More...

Secondly, there is an early Christian Basilica here, outside and to the right of this picture. Personally I found the caves here more interesting though.

The Odeon

Once you have finished exploring Toumpallos, get back on the main path and follow it around. It eventually brings you back to the Odeon, and the lighthouse behind it. One thing this blog doesn't do is give you a sense of the scale of the Archaeological Park. To rectify this we have made a hyperlapse film showing a speeded-up walk through the park. You will then be able to see how much of a walk separates the various attractions.

The good news is that the grounds themselves are fascinating to walk through. You will be amazed at the amount of ruins that lurk still buried beneath the undergrowth. They have only scratched part of the surface of what is here. Who knows what more they will find in years to come?

Agora Excavations

Here, for instance, just in front of the Odeon, is the Agora. They only recently found some ancient human remains out in amongst those pits you can see. In its day this view would have looked spectacular, and the whole field would have been flanked by columns.
