Limni Crystal Hunting
Pedestrian Access Only
The track did actually continue past this for a bit, but there was no way I was driving up there. I could see too many cracks caused by winter rains. So instead I progressed on foot. Word of warning here; where long trousers. The undergrowth in Cyprus is prickly at the best of times, but here there were spikes everywhere.
View From The Top
And here's the view from the very top. Not that dissimilar from the views lower down, but there you go.
Tie a Pink Ribbon
this was odd. I saw a similar ribbon tied to a tree at the bottom. Is this route on some running club's trail? I am used to seeing little piles of salt left by Hash runs, but a pink ribbon is a new one on me. Does anybody know what this signifies?
Back on Terra Firma
Having tired of clambouring over the mine itself, we went for a rummage in the foothills that surround it. There is obvious evidence of further mining activities all around.
Chemicals Abound
When you consider how many chemicals must be in the soil here, it is quite surprising that anything grows. In winter we drove down this valley, and found a stream that was bright blue in colour. The rains had leached copper out of the soil, making the water look like it was paint.

We were introduced to the Crystal Hills a few years back. It was the first time we visited Polemi and we were on the hunt for geocaches. This particularly one was a near perfect example of what makes a good cache: an interesting location that we would have been unlikely to find had there not been a cache there. The only thing that let the cache down was it's size, but we won't go into that here. Instead we shall have a look at the terrain, and see why the cache was called "The Crystal Hill".Max's Androlikou Roadtrip
