The Final View

This was the room inside the door. Not a lot to see really. It was weird though, even if we turned the torches off, it still felt really calm down here. Most odd, but it was a very peaceful place.

The Way Back

On the way back I took another picture over those man-made walls. Were they just there to stop landslides?

The Second Mine

The second mine was much more of a stoop. There wasn't much to see in it. However, we didn't go as far as we could.

Mines Within Mines

This mine was on multiple levels. I could have climbed down to explore the lower level, but to be honest, I am not a caver, and had not come equipped with any equipment other than a torch...

End of the Line

...so I took a final picture, then left the mines to be explored by a more adventurous soul than me.

The mines are a fascinating place for a day trip. A torch is essential, and after a lot of rain it could get treacherous, but it is well worth a visit. If you are feeling energetic, park at Smigies Picnic Camp and go on the Long Nature Trail. It is about half way round. On the way back, you may be able to spot the old burial ground as well. It will be on your left.

Happy Halloween!

The Far Side of the Akamas

Last October when I had the weekend to myself, I resolved to do a geocache that had eluded me up until now, due to it's remoteness. Given that people were interested in the Akamas Church blog I posted a while back, I thought I would turn the photos I took into another blog...

Paphos Caving

A few months ago we read a report in the papers about an interesting cave that lurked within Paphos itself, behind an old church. After a bit of investigation I found it, and did a bit of spelunking.
