The Akamas By Car
Sleepy Hollow

When I took this picture I didn't realised I snapped a resting goat herder.

Getting There...

We've made good progress, and as you can see, the road is still fine. When exploring anywhere in Cyprus, you should always make sure you have plenty of water and a charged mobile phone. You should also ensure you have a spare tyre and know how to change a wheel in an emergency. If you do run into problems, the local Cypriots are a friendly bunch, and will usually offer to help, but if you are in a remote spot, you may be on your own. Finally, check the small print if you are renting a car, and make sure you know exactly what is and isn't covered.

These sheep have the right idea.
The Bay is in Sight

Now, if you remember, at the start, we didn't take the route to Lara Bay. There is a reason for this. We aren't going to Lara Bay. Instead, we are going to the bay next to it. Confusingly, Lara Bay Restaurant is also in the bay next to it. The reason we aren't going to Lara Bay is because that part of the journey gets a lot more bumpy, and in winter there are huge puddles. Today, we are playing it safe. So...
Turn Left Here

We've come to the end of our road now, and we are on the main Akamas drag. This is bumpier than before, but we won't be on it for long.

Lara Bay
Lara Bay is a bit of an enigma. If you approach from the direction of Paphos and Coral Bay, on the main road, you may well end at the beach by Lara Bay Restaurant. Confusingly, this is not Lara Bay. eBookCyprus Road Trip 01: the Kathikas - Panagia Loop
Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
