Akamas Vertigo
For a while now we have been meaning to place another geocache in the Akamas. We first checked out the location, above Avakas Gorge, last summer. We went back a few months later to check the coordinates, and now, finally, the cache is live. While we were doing this, I naturally took some pictures...
NB: since taking these pictures, it hasn't stopped raining. The gorge itself is inaccessible at the moment, so wait until the weather improves before attempting a visit!
End of the Track

We love the region above and behind Avakas Gorge, and regularly cut through it on the way to adventures further afield. Starting from the Avakas Gorge car park, you would get here by leaving the car park and keeping left. You end up on a track that snakes up the side of the hill to a plateau. Continue along the track and you will find a smaller track branching left. That track leads to this spot.
Distant Lara Bay

In the distance, we can see familiar features covered in other blogs.
The Top of the Gorge

We have already placed a cache on the other side of the gorge, over there somewhere.
Woodland Clearing

That's interesting. Why is there a bald spot over there? We shall have to investigate one day.
The Edge of the Plateau

I want to make this cache a bit more of a challenge, so intend going a bit more off-piste than in the past.

eBookCyprus Road Trip 01: the Kathikas - Panagia Loop
Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
