In Search Of The Stroumpi Lion
Bumpy Ride

You may as well park at the bottom of this slope, near to the sign, as the track up was quite bumpy. It isn't a very long walk. Don't block the road though, as it does get used.

King of the Paphos Jungle

So what does the sign about the lion have to say?
The stone lion is an impressive rock formation in the shape of a lion which emerges amid some low herbaceous vegetation of Mediterranean bushes and shrubs. Some fancy that the rock formation, which resembles a "sleeping" lion or the ancient Sphinx, watches over the community and protects it from all evil.
Gypsum Lion

Closer inspection revealed that the lion is formed mainly of gypsum. This could explain why it looks like it has melted a bit.
A Tourist Attraction?

So, is it worth visiting the Stroumpi Lion?
Watch This Space

I certainly wouldn't recommend travelling all the way from Paphos just to see the lion. However, it does form part of a bigger nature trail. When the temperatures cool a little - because let's face it, it is bloody hot at the moment - we shall do the entire trail, and add it to our section on Walks. So watch this space...

The Crystal Hills of Polemi
We were introduced to the Crystal Hills a few years back. It was the first time we visited Polemi and we were on the hunt for geocaches. This particularly one was a near perfect example of what makes a good cache: an interesting location that we would have been unlikely to find had there not been a cache there. The only thing that let the cache down was it's size, but we won't go into that here. Instead we shall have a look at the terrain, and see why the cache was called "The Crystal Hill".
