The Grey Cliffs of Paphos - Part 2
Meanwhile, Down Below...

However, below me there were definite signs of a relatively modern camp. I wanted to investigate this, but thought it would be easier if I came at if from below.

From Below

It was an easy climb to get up there, but there was not a lot to see. Yes, somebody had made a makeshift roof out of old bits of furniture, but that was a while ago and it was no longer in use.
Interesting Rocks

I found the surrounding rocks more interesting than the collapsed roof, to be honest. Looking west, it was clear that I would have to return to road level before continuing, so this is a good time to bring Part 2 to a close. In the final part we shall find the Archaeological Dig we were originally looking for.
Mystery Enclosure

Oh, one final thing, we didn't spot this until the end, when we were walking back to the car. However, as it is just below the first ruins we featured in this article, I thought it best to include them here. Plus I had two picture slots going free...
Mystery Cave

Inside the enclosed area is a small pond, and a cave going into the cliff. There are numerous caves like this in this cliff, and some of them go back a long way. I went down one in the "Paphos Caving" blog (see link below), and there are others in the Shrine Cave area that go under Geroskipou. Apparently, those have bad air, so perhaps that is why this one is closed too?

The Grey Cliffs of Paphos - Part 1
A ridge of cliffs bisects the city of Paphos. Below it, Universal and Kato Paphos stretch down to the sea. Above it, the Old Town and business areas form the bulk of the rest of the city. But what of the cliffs themselves? For years I have been meaning to explore them properly, and recently I finally got around to it. I've split the article into three parts, and we shall begin above the church we featured in our last blog.
St George's Church and Shrine Caves
Near the shops on the Paphos / Geroskipou border, is a little track that runs below a cliff through some farmland. A sign indicates that there is a church down there, so one day I thought I would investigate. Sure enough, there was a little church, but there was so much more besides...
Paphos Caving
A few months ago we read a report in the papers about an interesting cave that lurked within Paphos itself, behind an old church. After a bit of investigation I found it, and did a bit of spelunking.Good Pages To Visit
