Simou's Second Church

Next to the graveyard, we found another church, which presumably is older than the main one.

Alineri

This sign caught our eyes. I quite fancied buying some authentic village halloumi, as it delicious grilled or lightly fried in butter.

Beehives

Instead I found beehives.

Alineri This Way

This sign points to the Alineri too. This sign illustrates the trouble I have trying to read Greek. I can understand that P and H in Greek mean R and I in English, and that Λ is L, but what about the N? That is the same on both signs. However, in looking up the fonts I have answered my own question. The signs are in upper case, and uppercase N is the same in English and Greek. It is only in the lowercase that they differ, with Greek being v.

It was a bit irrelevent anyway, as they were closed.

Final View

There is a nice view from this location, but the road ends in a field, so you may as well turn around here.

And that was Simou. We shall definitely return to try out the tavern, as it was in a lovely setting. It is very easy to drive through places like this without realising that the square, and indeed, most of the village, is there. So if you have the time, it is always worth a diversion to check the village out.

Venetian Bridges: Skarfos

We have been meaning to look at Venetian Bridges for some time, so today I thought I would start with Skarfos, as this is easily accessible and is the Western-most Venetian Bridge that I am aware of. Situated just off the road to Simou from the B7, it may not be the most spectacular bridge Cyprus has to offer, but there are enough other attractions nearby to make it worth your journey, as you shall see...

This trip takes in over 10 villages, and covers a variety of landscapes, from Kathikas in the East to pano Panagia in the West.

Simou Church

Pano Arodes

Pano Arodes is one of the gateways to the Akamas. It is a charming village between Kathikas and Droushia. We will be featuring it in our next eBook, so recently visited it to do some research. Naturally enough, we took lots of pictures while we were there...

Mousere

If you are driving to Troodos on the Kouklia - Dora road, you will pass through Mousere just after Archimandrita. It isn't a very big place, but it is worth a look around, as there are some nice views coupled with some interesting ruins. Plus, the locals are very welcoming...
