The Paphos to Polis Motorway - Part 1
Interlude
Now, the motorway runs to the right of this shot, but at this particular location it was possible to get to the bottom of the gorge, so I took my camera down for a look.
Rocky
There appears to be a manmade structure in the centre here. The gorge, however, is no Avakas Beater. Like most remote gorges, it is mainly full of vegetation.
From 1961
This water feature - whatever it is - was built in 1961, and is emblazoned with the free Cyprus logo.
This is as good a time as any to remind you that Tuesday, October 1st is a bank holiday and Cyprus Independence Day.
Best of wishes go out to all Cypriots! Party on!
Minthis Work
Getting back to the task in hand, the motorway runs to the left of this track, up near the pylons.
And Finally...
We end part 1 looking back at the route we have come. The motorway is avoiding the base of the valley and instead cutting through the hillside. This makes perfectly good sense, when you consider how treacherous the streams can become in the winter months. Behind us, the motorway will continue into a tunnel, emerging near Kallepeia.
In the concluding part of this blog we shall get lost far too many times between Kallepeia and Stroumpi, as we continue our journey through the Paphos countryside. We shall even visit a very small mountain!

The spring flowers in Cyprus are starting to bloom, and some are more prominent than others. The giant fennel is one such plant. It can dominate an area and put on a stunning display, as we shall see...Geroskipou Bypass
It has been announced that there is to be a new bypass built between Paphos and Geroskipou. Responses to this news were mixed, but we think it is a good idea. We decided to visit the area to see where the bypass will go and who it will benefit. Besides, the map had shown that there was a flea market in the area. What was that all about...?Good Pages To Visit
