Old Pafos in 2019 - Part 2
Centre Stage
To the left of the shopping area there is an open-air theatre. This gets used fairly regularly. Indeed Ibrahim's Khan itself regularly hosts a variety of events.
Sharen's Shop
Our final destination is here. I want to pop in and say hello to Sharen Taylor, a mosaic artist who has been active for over 25 years. This is her studio.
Mosaic Buddies
And here she is, greeting a friend of hers, Demetrios Michaelides. He's Professor of Classical Archaeology at the university of Cyprus, and president of the International Community of the Conservation of Mosaics since 1996. So he knows a thing or two about the tile.
Sneak Peak
This is a commission piece Sharen is currently working on, for a local lawyer. It is a homage to the artist Gustav Klimt, and is based on his painting "The Kiss".
I will be doing a blog on the various mosaics dotted around Old Pafos in due course, and Sharen is responsible for one of the more celebrated pieces. That's for another day though.
The Map
Here is the route we took to make this blog. In total I think we took over 300 photos, and we missed quite a few shops, galleries and art pieces. This blog is designed to be a snapshot of a typical walk, rather than a definitive guide to the entire area. There are many more places to see. If you want to explore further before you get here, you should head over to our Old Pafos Virtual Tour on www.oldpafos.com.
I shall probably drop the unused pictures into a gallery and post it on our facebook page. So like the page if you want to get notified when that happens.
And don't wait too long before you visit! The place is constantly changing and evolving. It is full of life and bursting with energy. And don't just walk the streets. Go into the shops and have a browse. The place is full of surprises.
