At this point, I decided to return to Polemi for some food and to pick up Alex. I wanted to go to the far end of Evretou Reservoir and knew there would be lots of opportunities to photograph butterflies there. You will see them in another blog coming soon (with a nice film!). I mention this now because by the time we returned, the clouds had rolled in.

Towards the Abandoned Village

The last shots were taken only two hours later, but you can see how much the weather has changed. There are looming clouds and the wind has picked up.

The road to Evretou is now under water.

Reservoir End

And this is the final view, showing the mosque in the distance. The water level will never get higher than this.

I do hope you enjoyed the shots I took. The reservoirs are currently looking really beautiful, and it is rare to see them at this level. It last happened in 2012. So take a trip out and see what nature has in store for you. You won't be disappointed.

Evretou is Cut Off!

Now that the Asprokremmos has well and truly overflowed, we thought we would pay another visit to our old friend Evretou. The abandoned village is sited on the banks of the reservoir of the same name, and until recently was a popular destination for weekend fishing fans. Now though, the waters have risen...

Abandoned Villages - Evretou

Evretou is just off the B7 near Polis. It lies on the banks of the Evretou Reservoir, and is another sad testament to the troubles of 1974.

The Evretou Grave

Last time we walked around Evretou Dam, we observed a solitary grave on the opposite bank, half way up a hill. After the blog was published we were approached by somebody who keeps a log of the Turkish Cypriot Graves on the island. He hadn't a record of this one, so I promised to revisit the area and get more information...

A couple of weeks ago I had an errand to run down in Polis. It was a clear, sunny day, so I took the camera and went the scenic route. Well, two scenic routes, as it turned out. So join us on this trip through the Paphos countryside....
