Around Polemi
Outdoor Seating
As you walk along a typical Cypriot village street, you will notice an abundance of seating on the patios. During the summer months, it is normal for extended families to eat together outside, in the warm evenings. You may even see them move the TV to a convenient window so they can sit outside and watch the telly still. Evening walks are also a big thing in the villages. If you stroll through the streets as dusk descends on a summer night, you will meet many people doing the same. It is far too hot during the day to do any exercise.
Anyway, as I said, we are walking back towards the schools now, but when we hit the main road again we shall turn right.
Traditional Flora
This is a mulberry tree. You will find them in most Cypriot gardens. They signify good luck, and more practically provide excellent shade. When they are pruned you will be amazed at how much they get cut back. Honestly, the first time I saw it I thought the tree was dead, But within a couple of months it was back to its bushy best.
Note also the big piles of firewood. This is a necessity for most villagers, as in winter the houses can get very cold. It is important to remember that while Polemi is in the district of Paphos, it is over 450 metres above sea level. This means that it is less humid than the coastal area, but gets colder during the winter months. So during summer it is important to stock up on the wood. Normally it can get supplied by the cab load, though you can get much smaller bags from most kiosks and supermarkets.
Tulip Garden
We're back at the Corner Cafe now, and you can see the Tulip Garden in all its glory.
Turn Left Here
When we get back to Kokkinos Tavern, we shall take the left turn. This is the road to Letymbou and Kallepeia.
Nice Roof!
You can't really see it on this picture, but there are some nice rock sculptures on the roof of this building. If you turn right here you are back in the main shopping area. We shall go left though.

The Community Spirit is alive and well in at least one corner of Paphos! In Polemi, a group of volunteers, with the help of the local Mukhtar, are converting an area of wasteland into a Community Garden for the whole of Polemi to enjoy. A few days ago we paid them a visit to see how things were progressing.Polemi Concentration Camp
As you approach Polemi from the B7, you pass the Kamanterena Winery on your right. Just beyond that, if you are paying attention, you will see a lookout tower that wouldn't look out of place on a WW2 movie. A couple of ancient armoured vehicles might also perk your interest, so pull over, and take a look at Polemi Concentration Camp. The Polemi Countryside

I went for a stroll around Polemi this morning. I didn't use the SMS service, so had to stay within 500 metres of our house. Turns out the light was fantastic and I was able to take some nice pictures, assisted in part, by one of our cats who decided to follow me on my travels...Polemi Sunrise
A couple of days ago I was up bright and early running some errands, and I couldn't help but notice the beautiful sunrise. Naturally enough, I took some pictures, and this put me in the mood to take some more snaps as I carried out my chores...Good Pages To Visit
