The Akamas By Car
Sea View

We've eaten here a couple of times. It is nothing special, but if you have come out without a picnic and are hungry, you will certainly be able to get something to eat.

Beach View

This is the beach from the restaurant. It is quite sandy, and a nice place for a dip. This was the busiest we have seen the beach, though in August it probably gets even more crowded. In February it was deserted, though I still went for a swim...
The Restaurant from the Beach

There are no facilities at the beach, though it looks like there might once have been. So make sure you take your rubbish home with you if you have a picnic.
Far Side of the Beach

There are some interesting rock formations on the far side of the beach, and as you can see, it is possible to drive there. HOWEVER...
Extreme Car Park

It is important to note two things:
1. The only Cypriots parking here have heavy duty trucks and 4 x 4s. Do not attempt parking here unless you have the same, and even then think twice.
2. The free recovery option on your insurance policy will have an exclusion on beach rescue, so you will have to pay for it if you get stuck.
Bottom line, if in any doubt, park in the car park and walk down.

Lara Bay
Lara Bay is a bit of an enigma. If you approach from the direction of Paphos and Coral Bay, on the main road, you may well end at the beach by Lara Bay Restaurant. Confusingly, this is not Lara Bay. So go back to the main track, and continue into the Akamas for a little while longer. The turtles await...

eBookCyprus Road Trip 01: the Kathikas - Panagia Loop
Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
