Kolossi Castle
Kolossi Castle is an historic monument that lies between Episkopi and Limassol. The other day my wife, Alex, visited the site and this is her report.
The Castle

Having set up the new Facebook group, Cyprus Chat , we decided to visit a few places beyond the borders of Paphos Region. Making a trip to Limassol for a bit of art supply shopping we stopped at Kolossi castle so I, Alex, could have a look around. There are signposts on the main highway, but some were quite faded so use google maps!

For the minimal charge of €2.50 per person you get to see some Cypriot history and can sit in the shade of the grounds or visit the Kiosk just outside. There is a huge carpark and lots of informative signposts, just be aware that while there is disabled access at the base this visit will require a fair amount of stair climbing.

From the guide provided when you enter ‘Kolossi castle, one of the most significant monuments of medieval architecture in Cyprus…the first castle was built in 1210, the ruins are seen around the present structure…In 1454 the Grand Commander Louis de Magnac built a stronger castle that can be seen today. The castle is stone built with three storeys and walls of 1.25m thick.’

After entering the castle grounds and paying your fee, in the building on the left, you will be in the grounds with a small garden and toilets.
Information

Throughout your visit you will find information signs to help you understand what the areas were for and about the history.

eBookCyprus Road Trip 01: the Kathikas - Panagia Loop
Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
