A Year In Paphos
Carnival Time!

The spring is also Carnival time in Cyprus! All the major towns and cities go a bit crazy, and a good time is had by all. This report comes from the 2020 carnival, which occured days before COVID arrived in Cyprus. At least we went out with a bang!
Spring Countryside

The first time I saw a picture of Cyprus in Spring I was amazed. I had no idea of how different it looked and how green the fields became.
The rains of 2019 were particularly heavy. Given that we had had a drought for several years it was a welcome relief. In this blog we surveyed some of the water damage that had occurred around the village of Episkopi. The flooded bridge you see has now been completely rebuilt, though the picnic area is still feeling a bit sorry for itself.
Asprokremmos Overflows

Evretou is Flooded

Happy Easter!

The biggest celebrations of the year in Cyprus do not occur at Christmas. Easter is the time for big celebrations. Easter decorations adorn even the remotest villages, and family get-togethers are in abundance. You can imagine how tough it was for the locals this year, who had to celebrate during Lockdown. Hopefully next year things will be a bit more back-to-normal, or we will at least have grown more accustomed to the new, social-distancing norm. Read The Blog

eBookCyprus Road Trip 01: the Kathikas - Panagia Loop
Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
