Absent Friends

Alex wasn't with my on this trip, but had she been here, she would have taken pictures like this.

Downstream

Having negotiated my way to the gorge, I now had to get back again. The route downstream was even more inhospitable than the route I had already come, so instead I retraced my steps. I returned to the car, and followed the track down. It eventually came out in the Ezousa Valley, just before the bridge on the Letymbou - Choulou road.

And There's More

That would have been the end of this article. However, when I was putting together the Relaxing Cyprus film, I noticed something I had missed when I had been flying the drone. In this shot, you can see where I parked my car at the top of the screen. The gorge I visited was to the right of that. But look at the foreground in this picture. There is another, deeper part of the gorge, just waiting to be visited. It is completely hidden from the road. I had to check it out now!

So I returned to the gorge, and parked above the bit I had just spotted in the footage. There was a faint track visible.

Down We Go

This picture is quite misleading. You cannot tell from looking at it just how steep the route was. You can see plenty of prickles though, so out came the secateurs again.

Polemi Pond

Outside of Winter and Spring, a lot of Cyprus is very arid. Polemi, centrally placed in Paphos and surrounded by vineyards, remains greener than most. It even has a village pond. Admitedly, you have to go for a bumpy drive to find it, and very few people probably know that it is there, but find it we did.

The Crystal Hills of Polemi

We were introduced to the Crystal Hills a few years back. It was the first time we visited Polemi and we were on the hunt for geocaches. This particularly one was a near perfect example of what makes a good cache: an interesting location that we would have been unlikely to find had there not been a cache there. The only thing that let the cache down was it's size, but we won't go into that here. Instead we shall have a look at the terrain, and see why the cache was called "The Crystal Hill".
