Petratis Gorge - Part 1
Getting Rocky
After a while though, I was reminded that I was trying to descend into a gorge.
Fancy A Paddle?
As it was getting harder to find a path I thought I would see if I could walk along the riverbed itself. However, there was rather a lot of water in it.
Overgrown
The route nearest the river eventually became overgrown with stinging nettles. As I was wearing shorts and had no suitable stick, I gave up, and looked for a path further away from the water.
No Entry
That route took me here. If I were a lot thinner I could have squeezed through. But instead, I had to call it a day. Besides, my water was getting low, and I needed to get back to the car. I think I will try this route again later in the year though, when the vegetation has died down a bit and there is less water. I think if I wear long trousers and bring some secateurs for good measure, I should be able to make it through the nettles.
Satellite Image
Here's a satellite image showing the majority of the gorge. I have highlighted the bridge and the goat farm, so you have a point of reference. I have also highlighted the place where I finally did manage to get to the bottom of the gorge. I shall tell you about that in the next article.
