Pano Akourdaleia Nature Trail

Hunter's Paradise

The track runs past some solar panels and then alongside this rather odd contraption. I had seen a similar structure when I found Polemi Pond, a few months ago. I believe they are actually government-controlled breeding sites. They are used to breed birds for the hunters to hunt. If you have ever driven along farm tracks and found some particularly stupid birds which run in front of the car rather than get out of the way, then this is where they came from. Or places like this. They are bred specifically to be hunted.

Dead End

After that, the trail soon petered out. I did continue on foot for about an hour (you will need secateurs and a dearth of common sense) but I eventually gave up as it was getting dark.

Map View

I was puzzled, so looked on Google Maps again. You can see at the top of this image where the track originally ended. Further down you can see a route emerging from the gorge and going up the side of the hill. It peters out before it reaches the road though.

I was keen to get a better view of the area, so returned the following afternoon.

Back On The Trail

I soon worked out what road was shown on the map. When you drive from Kathikas, you come to a turning that leads immediately to the church. If instead you continue down the road, you end up here. This is the penultimate bench marked on the map, so presumably the final stretch is on the road.

Where Now?

If you park your car at this end, you could be forgiven for thinking that there was no trail here.
