Sodap Beach Update
There was recently a bit of a kerfuffle in the press about the new cafe that is being built at the SODAP beach in Paphos. We couldn't help notice that the pictures used all showed the beach from one angle. So we took a New Year's Eve trip down to the coast, to get a clearer picture. Now you can judge for yourself just how much of an encroachment this cafe will be.
Behind The Hoardings
We parked at the municipal carpark and walked up the coast path towards Paphos. The hotels to the right all seem closed now, and barrier tape was threaded amongst the palm trees to prevent people accidently wandering into the hotel grounds.
Semi-Social Distancing
There were a fair number of masks in evidence, but they were by no means everywhere. As you can see though, the area wasn't exactly crowded.
Vrysoudia B Beach
During the tourist season this beach is lovely and clean. Every Winter tons of seaweed get dumped on it from the Med, and every Spring it gets gathered up. It is worth noting that the presence of all this seaweed indicates that the waters themselves are very clean. So this is actually a good sign, provided they get cleared up.
Distant Castle
When I first moved to Cyprus I went swimming in the sea on New Years Eve, or Day. I can't remember which to be honest. That was four years ago. Since then, I have become acclimatised to the Cyprus weather, and I wouldn't dream of going swimming in it now.
SODAP Sands
Ok, so let's have a look at the SODAP Beach.
