Polemi Tulip Festival Is On Sunday
Tomorrow, Sunday 30th March, Polemi hosts its annual Tulip Festival. Starting at 11AM, the Metochi Cultural Centre will be the main focus, along with the tulip field itself. This is what you can expect...
Great Expectations

Polemi is famous for its wild tulips that grow in the fields around the village. In recent years, modern agricultural practices have seen them dwindle, but the local authorities stepped in to protect an area, which is what you can see behind this fence. You will still find tulips on verges and between vines, but the place people head after they have visited the Metochi Centre is here.
Here Come The Tulips

I checked the field 10 days ago and nothing was yet flowering. However, I inspected the field again two days ago and now the tulips are beginning to bloom. In fact, the timing of the festival is perfect. I imagine the recent hot weather has encouraged the plants on their way.

To see the tulips yourself, and the accompanying festival, you should head to Polemi on Sunday morning. Take the B7 from Paphos to Polis, and once you have gone over the first big hill through Tsada, you will pass a petrol station just before Stroumbi. Take the right turn next to the station and you will be on the road to Polemi. Once you get to the centre, find somewhere to park, then follow the crowds. There are signposts as well, but the crowds should be all the indication you need.

The festival starts at 11AM, and is well worth attending. If you have ever wanted to attend a traditional Cypriot Village Festival, then this will be right up your street. As well as stalls selling allsorts, there are a number of performances put on by local schools and clubs.

At the end of this article I shall include some photos from previous festivals, so you know what to expect.

Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
