Paphos Kataklysmos Festivities - 2024
Think Pink

I wonder what happens to all these items when they aren't on show here? Do Jumbo do "Sale or Return" or is there a big warehouse somewhere? All the stalls are highly mobile though. They fold away into the back of a truck or lorry.
Soutzoukos

Those long sticks hanging down are another Cypriot tradition. Soutzoukos are made from processed grape juice ("must") and almonds or walnuts. To be honest I am not that keen on them myself, but a lot of people find them delicious.
Pachinko

This is another Fairground Game you will see in a lot of places. And look, you can win a Pink Panther! It is a form of Pachinko. You get a number wherever the ball lands, and certain numbers give prizes.
Hoop Toss

Hoop Toss is another Fairground Favourite. You can buy a whopping 52 hoops for 10 euros. Imagine how annoyed you would be if you did all that and came away with nothing?
The only time I have ever won anything on a Fairground Game like this was one where I had to throw beanbags at stacks of cans to knock them over. The first time I tried I was terrible. But the girl I was with - and obviously trying to impress - whispered three fateful words into my ear. I had another go, and with three bean bags knocked over three entirely separate piles of cans. The stall-holder quickly pointed to the sign saying only one win per game, so I only claimed one stuffed toy, but By God it felt good to knock over those cans.
Double Bubble

This stall was taking no chances. You could either throw hoops or beanbags. The top prize on offer seemed to be Picachus.
Oh and the three words were "Think of Garuda", which was probably not what you imagined.

Paphos Kataklysmos Celebrations
Kataklysmos is a big deal in Cyprus. The whole island celebrates with water festivals, traditional events and numerous other activities. Traditionally the biggest celebrations occur in Larnaca, though every town and city does their bit. Paphos is having its own celebrations, and the Sea Front is teaming with stalls selling allsorts. Over the next few days there are also performances to be enjoyed at Paphos Castle. We went down to the Sea Front to join in the fun.Good Pages To Visit
