Boules or Petanque?

This game is sometimes called Boules, and sometimes called Petanque. I was curious to see what the difference was. Google wasn't very helpful. Some results said they were the same, others said that Petanque was a type of Boules. So I tried the AI approach, and asked ChatGPT. That was even worse. It gave a long, credible-sounding essay, listing various differences. However, one of the differences it listed stated that in Boules you have a run-up. Now, I have seen the game played in various countries, and many times in France, but I have never, ever seen a run-up. So I asked Chat GPT for more information on the run-up, and it burbled away quite happily. I wasn't having it though, so I said the following:

Please give your source to the running start, as I have never seen it.

I apologize for the confusion in my previous response. You are correct that a running start is not commonly used in traditional boules or pétanque. The running start I mentioned was an error on my part, and I apologize for any confusion caused.

This pretty much sums up my experiences with AI so far. But be warned, it is being used more and more. All this shows is that it is even more important that you verify information you get online yourself. Don't take it for granted. If AI can get a simple thing like this wrong, imagine how unlikely it is to be able to answer a complicated question about your bunions?

Pachyammos Beach

We've reached Pachyammos Beach now. I covered this area in a recent blog so won't dwell on it now. It is very nice for families with small children though, and there is a handy carpark nearby.

KarkoLoues

I don't know where the name "KarkoLoues" comes from, but I was intrigued by the phrase "Enjoy the silence". So far on my walk I hadn't noticed any issues with noise whatsoever.

In our next installment we will be walking from here to the Municipal Baths at the Sea Front. Stay tuned for that!

The other day I went out to photograph some of the beaches around Paphos. We have a beaches directory and I figured it needed some more up-to-date images. So while the pictures I took won't be suitable for the directory, I thought you might like to see what's occurring. In this article, we take a look at Riccos Beach Area, in Geroskipou.
