Paphos Coast Path - The Missing Link

Published 2nd of September, 2024

In recent years Paphos Coast Path has been renovated, and it is now possible to walk from Geroskipou Beach all the way to Sandy Bay in Lempa without once hitting the main coast road. But why stop there? We have already shown you the fantastic coast path that graces the cliffs of Kissonerga, but the ultimate goal is a walkway reaching all the way to Coral Bay. Before that can happen though, there is the issue of the area between Sandy Bay and Kissonerga. Can you walk that without resorting to the main road? Let's find out...

Begin At The Beginning...

We begin our epic adventure at the end of the Paphos Coast Path in Lempa. If I turned round 180 degrees I would be looking at Popaddom's Restaurant on the main Paphos - Coral Bay coast road, if you want to get your bearings.

Familiar Scene

This was as far as we got when we did our series on the Chloraka portion of the Paphos Coast Path. We are looking at Sandy Beach.

Steps To Heaven

There is a wooden bridge here which leads down to the beach itself. Nearly. Before the beach, there is a stream you will need to cross. I was wearing trainers, but thoughtful people had left stepping-stones so I was able to cross without getting a booty.

To the right of this shot, a little way up, there used to be a little bridge that spanned the stream. That was dismantled though, as apparently it was damaging to the local eel population.

Surf's Up!

There was a bit of surf here, and this will increase as we head into Autumn. You will also see surfers here occasionally. Do bear in mind though, that the area is notorious for rip-tides. People have died here, and a lot of locals won't go near it. So take care and make sure a Life Guard is on duty before going for a dip.

If you do get caught in a riptide, the way to survive is not to fight against it. Just swim sideways to the shore, until you are out of it. If you try and head straight to shore the current will beat you. So don't.

The Life Guard

The Life Guard Station itself is next to the beach, on the rocks. There is a staircase leading up to it, and we shall use these to get us onto the rocky area we need to cross.

Last year we showed you the newly renovated Paphos Coast Path from the Castle all the way to Dimma Beach. The coastline around Paphos has a number of hidden gems. I recently flew the drone around the Vardas Beach Area and thought I would share with you what it saw.
