In The Orchard

I have to say, I hadn't expected the orchard to be quite as lovely as it was. The pictures don't do it justice. They don't show you the noise the insects made, or the scent of the flowers.

The grass here is quite long, and there are lots of bees and wasps buzzing around. So if you do decide to do something similar, you might want to consider long trousers.

If you come to Paphos at the moment, you might be disappointed with the amount of roadworks around at the moment. The solution is simple. Get out into the countryside and let Nature entertain you.

Last Year's Crop

The majority of the blossom at the moment is for Almond trees.

Almond trees are a common sight in Cyprus, and they have been cultivated on the island for thousands of years. There are several reasons why almond trees are prevalent in Cyprus:

1. Climate: Almond trees are well-suited to the Mediterranean climate found in Cyprus. They can tolerate hot summers and mild winters, and they require a dry climate during the growing season to produce a good crop.

2. Soil: The alkaline, nutrient-rich soil found in many parts of Cyprus is ideal for growing almonds.

3. Cultural heritage: The cultivation of almond trees has been an important part of Cyprus' cultural heritage for thousands of years. Almond trees were introduced to the island by the Phoenicians and have been cultivated ever since.

4. Economic importance: Almonds are an important agricultural product for Cyprus. They are exported to many countries around the world, and they are also used in traditional Cypriot cuisine.

5. Health benefits: Almonds are a healthy food, and they are rich in nutrients such as fiber, protein, and healthy fats. They are also a good source of vitamin E, magnesium, and potassium, which are important for maintaining good health.

Overall, the combination of favorable climate and soil conditions, cultural heritage, economic importance, and health benefits make almond trees a popular crop in Cyprus.

That information was courtesy of Chat GPT. I was curious as to why there were so many almond trees in Cyprus, and Google wasn't very helpful, so I gave that a go instead.
