Paphos Aviation Relics
Once upon a time, a man had a dream. He wanted to set up an aviation museum in Paphos and fly old planes around the island, for money. Something like that anyway. His company bought some planes, then went bust before anything else could be done about it. Now there are three aging relics, languishing at the far end of Paphos Airport, unloved, and slowly rotting away.
Start Here
You can easily see the relics if you know where to look. We provide maps on the next page showing exactly where they are, but first we will show you what to expect when you arrive.
Planespotter's Path
You can get to within a field of the planes. And once here, there is a handy planespotters' trail leading you along the edge to the nearest viewpoint.
Pretty Scenery
Even if you are no fan of planes, there are some very pretty flowers along the route for you to enjoy.
The Forgotten Few
And here are the planes themselves: two Avro Shackletons (to the rear) and a French Airforce Dassault Flamant in the foreground.
Avro Shackleton
The following comes from a forum thread on Paphos Life from 2017:
There are two ex Royal Air Force, AEW (Airbourne Early Warning) Avro Shackletons, registrations WL747, and WL757 which were withdrawn from service in 1991 and sold to a local collector. These two aircraft were operated by 8 Squadron, and were affectionately known as Florence (WL747) and Brian (WL757) from Magic Roundabout fame. It's slightly ironic that these two aircraft are now overflown on an almost daily basis by Boeing aircraft bearing type designations with the same numbers.
