In the centre of the building there is this strange contraption. Presumably it is there to make the ringing of the bells easier from one central point. Note though, that it is designed to accommodate up to five bells. Are the remaining three bells waiting further donations?

Five bells is a signifacant number, too. Below that number and bell ringing gets a bit repetitive. I don't think the Cypriots are into the peals you hear emating from British churches though. Certainly, the bell of Polemi tends to be a single "clatter clatter" ring. While not tuneful it always makes me smile on a weekend afternoon, because it acts as a cue for the local dogs to start a 5 minute howl.
