Paphos - Polis Motorway Update - January 2024
Tunnel Number 2

They have started work on the second tunnel now as well. This will be smaller than the first one. You can see this for yourself if you follow the Kallepeia Nature Trail which features in our next article.

Other Side

Here's the other side of the second tunnel. You can see that it only goes under the pylon, so is more of a chubby bridge than a proper tunnel.
View Towards Stroumpi

From the second tunnel the motorway will pass over the existing B7 and head up the hill towards Stroumpi. To film that though, we will have to do a bit of mountain climbing.
Big Bridge

As the B7 loops around towards Stroumpi and the Polemi turn-off, it passes Polemi Mountain on its right. Now, it might not look like a mountain, but if you walk or drive to its summit (in a 4x4) you will see a sign identifying it as such. Also, when we mentioned to a shopkeeper in Old Town once that we lived in Polemi, he told us that his Uncle lived near the Mountain there. So we shall call it Polemi Mountain too.
Anyway, the top of Polemi Mountain is the perfect place to launch a drone from, as it is higher than all the pylons by a big margin and provides a safe way of filming the motorway route.

The bridge they are building here is going to be pretty impressive.

A new motorway is coming to Paphos. It will link the existing A6 motorway to the North West coast of the island, reduce travel time, and aid congestion on the B7. That's the plan, anyway. Alternatively, it will destroy precious natural areas and be an expensive waste of money. We decided to take a look at the proposed route for ourselves, so now at least you will know exactly where the motorway will go. Possibly.
