On this map you are currently near the 25. The next thing I want to show you is the water mill, which is behind you. So turn round!
Old Water Mill
When I first visited Kritou Terra I was quite impressed with this water mill. However, I have since seen many similar structures all over Cyprus, so I tend to be a bit glib about them, which is unfair. Basically, the water would run along the channel to the end, where it would tumble down a hole. As the water fell it would turn a mechanism which would in turn cause a millstone to move. So an essential ingredient of a water mill is water. Given Kritou Terra's abundance of water you wouldn't be surprised to learn that the surrounding hills are peppered with such mills. To me, the most impressive feat in this is the construction of the transport links. Donkey trails must have criss-crossed the countryside at one point, though most of them have long since been absorbed by the surrounding countryside.

Next to the mill is an area where the local ladies used to do their laundry.

Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
