Kritou Marottou - A Typical Cypriot Village
Village Scene
This is a typical Cypriot village. When people ask about typical Cypriot villages, they invariably get told to visit Omodos in the Troodos Mountains. It is a lovely place, but is in no way typical.
The Village Coffee Shop
Walking back towards the church, it became apparent that the building I was puzzled about was in fact a tavern. Well, according to Google, it is actually a coffee shop, called Dapas ton sofi.
Kritou Christmas
On the way back down I also spotted these lovely Christmas decorations. You will find similar adornments at Easter.
So Farewell Then...
Finally, we went back to our car in the Church Square, and took the road towards Kannaviou. Very soon we came to the village limits.
Sensational Souvla
I shall end with one final typical Cypriot Village Scene. A tavern in Kannaviou was preparing its Sunday Souvla. Actually, two taverns were, but I could only fit one picture in. Served with chunky chips and a side salad, they are a Cypriot Staple, especially during the Summer months.
When you explore Cyprus in a car, don't just visit the tourist hotspots. Take time out to see the real Cyprus. You won't be disappointed.
